Frequently Asked Questions about Folder Password Protect

What licensing scheme is used?

Licensing is per drive. That is a single license allows you to install the program on a single drive. The license cannot be shared. If you get a new PC instead of the old one, you can uninstall the program from the old PC and install it on the new one.

The licensing information is not written into protected folder. That is you can open protected folders at any PC that has at least the trial version of Folder Password Protect installed provided that you know the password for the folders.

You cannot install Folder Password Protect on the server and then run it from local workstations. If you need to protect folders located on the server, install the program on the local workstations from which your users will protect/unprotect folders. In this case, you need a license for each PC you install the program on or a site license, which allows you to install the program on an unlimited number of computers within your organization. The site license is priced at $199. This is a link to the secure order form.

Can I try the program?

Yes, you can download the free 30-day trial version: protect-folders.exe

What happens when the trial period expires?

Locked folders retain protection until you unprotect them. When the trial period expires, you can still unlock your folders (double-click the locked folder in the right pane of Windows Explorer and enter the password) but you cannot use the Lock option. Please purchase the full version to use all the features of Folder Password Protect.

Can the program protect folders on my web site?

Folder Password Protect was not designed for protecting web sites. You can have a look at htaccess password protection.

What languages are supported?

The user interface is in English.

Folder/file names in two-bit languages like Chinese and Japanese are not supported. If this is your case, name your folders/files in Latin characters.
